Trudy Rose Brody Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship has been offered annually since the 2017-2018 academic year in loving memory of Trudy Rose Brody, a committed and caring psychotherapist who had a private practice in Smithtown for over 30 years.  Prior to opening her private practice, she worked at mental health clinics in Suffolk County, rising to the Director of Mental Health Services at a Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) where she continued to work while she began her private practice.

 

Scholarships are offered to one student from Smithtown High School East and one student from Smithtown High School West who exhibits the ideals that Trudy showed; who is planning a career in Social Work or Psychology, and who has been accepted and will be attending a four-year college offering an accredited program in Sociology/Social Work or Psychology.  A minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 is required.

​A complete application package for the 2020 - 2021 scholarship will include the following

         Completed and signed application form

         Two (2) optional signed and dated non-family letters of recommendation for this scholarship

         Proof of acceptance to a qualifying four-year college and your intention to attend this educational institution

         High School transcript

The deadline for submitting 2020 - 2021 applications is April 9, 2021.

2020 - 2021 Academic Year Scholarship Award

As a result of the continuing COVID-19 (Coronavirus) isolation requirements this year’s Smithtown Central School District Scholarship Awards Ceremony again was a virtual ceremony presented via youtube.  A single scholarship award was made to Zachary Spiegel who attends Smithtown High School East and plans to major in Psychology.  This year’s award presentation was made by Trudy’s son Michael.

2019 - 2020 Academic Year Scholarship Award

As a result of the New York State COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Social DIstancing Requirements the annual Smithtown Central School District Scholarship Awards Ceremony was a virtual ceremony presented via youtube.  Scholarship awards were made to Lauren Indimine and Emily Trabulsi.  Both awardees from Smithtown High School East plan to major in Psychology.

2018 - 2019 Academic Year Scholarship Award

The 2018 - 2019 scholarship award was announced by Trudy's husband at the Smithtown School District Scholarship Awards Ceremony at Smithtown West High School on June 6, 2019.  There was one award made to Jillian Pirozzi from Smithtown West who is planning to major in Psychology and minor in elements of Forensic Psychology.  This year there was only a single award made since there were no applications from students at Smithtown East.

2017 - 2018 Academic Year Scholarship Awards

 

The 2017 - 2018 scholarship awards were announced by Trudy's  sons at the Smithtown School District Scholarship Awards Ceremony at Smithtown West High School on May 31, 2018.  The Smithtown East award was made to Julia Scagluso who is planning to attend Adelphi University as did Trudy and major in Psychology. The Smithtown West award was made to Danielle Renner who is planning to attend Providence College and major in Social Work as was Trudy's chosen profession.
